Community-academic research collaborations revolve around processes of joint decisionmaking about the four major steps of research: 

1. Design (research question, the research plan, and research methods)
2. Implementation (the program delivery, data collection)
3. Data analysis
4. Dissemination (publishing, presentations, reporting and networking).
